depan, retailer Apple mulai memberlakukan harga khusus iPad 2. Ini
diduga untuk menghabiskan persediaan iPad 2 yang masih tersisa. Retailer
di Amerika Serikat, Meijer misalnya, mulai menurunkan harga iPad2 16 GB
hingga US$ 70 atau Rp632 ribu. Sementara di laman resmi Apple, harga
iPad 2 hingga 25 Febuari mencapai harga US$429 atau Rp3,87 juta.
Dalam
laman Apple Insider, pengumuman penjualan ini berlaku sepekan yakni 12 –
18 Febuari an berlaku hanya sementara sampai persediaan terakhir. Harga
khusus ini tidak berlaku di luar jadwal yang telah ditentukan. Harga
khusus lain, aksesori Smart Cover iPad2, dijual dengan harga US$35,
harga normal dari Apple sekitar US$40. Meijer juga menawarkan kartu
bingkisan gratis iTunes seharga US$15 dengan membeli iPod 8GB seharga
US$195 pada pekan ini.
Meijer yang merupakan rantai pasar Apple yang berbasis di Michigan Sebagian besar toko perusahaan berada di Michigan, meskipun juga memiliki lokasi di beberapa negara bagian lain. Diskon harga sebesar US$70 adalah satu dari tahapan diskon iPad 2 semenjak perangkat ini dirilis pada Maret tahun lalu. Misalnya, Best Buy menawarkan diskon US$45 untuk semua model iPad pada tahun lalu, menjelang Black Friday. Apple juga menawarkan diskon antara US$41 hingga US$61 selama promosi Black Friday.
Batas waktu harga khusus ini diberlakukan seiring dengan untuk peluncuran iPad generasi ketiga yang kemungkinan akan dilakukan pada Maret mendatang. Langkah Meijer itu juga sebagai upaya membersihkan persediaan sebelum perangkat baru tiba. Tablet Apple berikutnya diperkirakan memiliki layar Retina Display resolusi tinggi, dengan kepadatan pixel ganda seperti model saat ini, serta prosesor A6 yang secara signifikan lebih cepat. Beberapa laporan juga menunjukkan bahwa Apple bisa membuat lompatan ke 4G dengan merilis iPad LTE bulan depan.
